Thoughtfully informed care for communication, confidence, and closeness cultivation

Welcome to Compassionate Connections! Your journey toward healing and relief is well-deserved.
My name is Kasey Carpenter Nuss. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, #LMFT-15732. I have worked to help couples communicate via research projects and undergraduate instruction for over ten years, with experience providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families for the better part of a decade.
I specialize in systemic thinking: It combines knowledge about relationships, mental health research, family and social history, and communication to help clients regain control of diverse struggles within their lives or relationships. Whether your concerns are individual, relational, or both, I am here to help.
My clients describe my therapeutic style as "compassionately direct." I work best with clients who are ready and willing to engage in therapy, even when growth requires honesty, humility, and stepping outside of your comfort zone.
I help individuals navigate experiences such as abuse, grief, anxiety, and major life transitions while developing greater self-understanding, coping skills, and confidence. I work with couples to understand unproductive negative cycles and unlearn negative communication patterns, replacing them with productive communication and connection. I am also passionate about trust injury recovery, including but not limited to healing from infidelity.
My work is primarily informed by Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, while also drawing from approaches such as Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I vow to offer you thoughtful attention, support, and feedback in each session.
When appropriate, I also strive to incorporate laughter to help promote comfort during therapy; I spent my early years performing in improvisation and comedic theatre roles and am confident I can make you smile while diving deep!
I work as an adjunct professor for Arizona State University's Master of Advanced Study in Marriage and Family Therapy Program, where I have the privilege of training new clinicians. I became a board-registered clinical supervisor four years ago and have virtually served Floridian clients as a certified telehealth therapy practitioner over the past three years.
I understand beginning services can be an intimidating decision, and from day one I strive to create an open, judgment-free, and safe environment. I love and welcome diversity and commend my clients for making the first appointment, as it’s often the hardest step!
When not with clients, you'll find me enjoying my life as a proud rescue dog mom, spending time with my husband, preaching my love for pasta and plant-based cooking, and enjoying embarrassing television choices (like true crime and reality) that you can rightfully judge.
My husband and I adopted Ms. Luna from the Arizona Husky Rescue in February 2021. She is the best part of our lives!
During telehealth sessions, clients are welcome to request the opportunity to say hello to Luna (don't worry; she respects confidentiality). As a Siberian Husky, we also may occasionally hear her quietly howling "hello" during telehealth appointments.
Compassionate Connections is available Mon-Fri and on select weekend mornings,
